Set — The Pattern Game

Three cards make a Set when every feature is all the same or all different. Spot one before anyone else.

How to Play

Every card has four features, and each feature has three possible values:

Shape
diamond · squiggle · oval
Shading
solid · striped · open
Colour
red · green · purple

The one rule

For each of the four features, the three cards must be all the same or all different. If even one feature has two-the-same-and-one-different, it isn't a Set.

✓ A Set — all different colours, all different shapes, all same number & shading.
✗ Not a Set — two red and one green. Two-and-one never works.

Claiming, and the 10-second rule

  • Everyone sees the same 12 cards.
  • Spotted one? Hit the big SET! button to claim it — first press wins the claim.
  • You then have 10 seconds to tap your three cards. Everyone else is locked out while you do.
  • Correct → you keep the Set (+1) and three fresh cards replace them.
  • Wrong or too slow → penalty: if you have Sets, one is taken back and shuffled into the deck. If you have none, you go to −1.
  • If no Set exists on the table, three extra cards are dealt automatically.

The game ends when the deck runs out and no Sets remain. Most Sets wins.
