Every age. Children can start as young as 6 months (with a parent or guardian involved under about 3–4 years), right through to teenagers and adults — it's never too early or too late.
It depends on your practice. With about 40 minutes a day, 6 days a week, most students get pretty comfortable within a year. With lighter practice it can take 1–3 years — music has its own learning curve.
